PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Martin Brodeur joined Patrick Roy as the only goalies in the NHL’s 500-win club, when he stopped 26 shots in the New Jersey Devils’ 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.
Brodeur, who failed in his first three attempts at the coveted mark, improved to 500-273-105-15. He set the single-season record for victories in Philadelphia last season and he improved to 12-1-1 in his last 14 starts against the Flyers, including a 2-1 mark this season.
Brodeur was backed by two goals scored 2:43 apart in the first period and two more in a 32-second span in the third that turned this one into a rout.
Flyers backup goalie Antero Niittymaki allowed two goals on New Jersey’s only two shots of the third period.
Dainius Zubrus knocked in a rebound, and Karel Rachunek stunned Martin Biron with a slap shot just inside the blue line in the first to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Patrik Elias found the puck in a scrum in front of the crease and knocked in his fourth goal early in the second for a 3-0 lead.
Jay Pandolfo’s seventh goal late in the third made it 4-1, and Brodeur cruised from there.
The Flyers pulled Biron for Niittymaki between periods and the Devils quickly made them pay.

The Coyotes claimed Bryzgalov off waivers earlier in the day from the Anaheim Ducks.
All three of Bryzgalov’s shutouts have been on the road. He beat San Jose 2-0 with 24 saves on Jan. 26, 2006, and needed just 14 saves to beat Chicago 3-0 on Oct. 26, 2006. This was the first time the Kings were blanked at home since April 6, 2006.

Giguere had earlier stopped Devin Setoguchi and Patrick Marleau in the shootout to extend the defending Stanley Cup champions’ longest winning streak of the season. The current run started with a shootout win over the Sharks on Nov. 9.
San Jose had won four straight since that loss in Anaheim in the first meeting of the season between the Pacific Division rivals.
The Sharks fell behind on a goal by Chris Kunitz in the first period and weren’t able to beat Giguere until the third when Torrey Mitchell tied it at 7:03.
