(STATS) – Bethune-Cookman and Jackson State will square off in the 2019 MEAC-SWAC Challenge during Labor Day weekend.
The annual matchup between the two FCS conferences of historically black colleges will be played at Georgia State Stadium, likely Sept. 1, although specific game information will be announced at a later date, according to a Jackson State release.
The Challenge will move into its 15th season. MEAC teams hold a 9-4 lead with the 2016 game, involving Bethune-Cookman, declared a no-contest because it was ended early by lightning. Bethune, from the MEAC, is 2-0 and Jackson State 0-1 in the Challenge.
SWAC member Jackson State has a 4-2 all-time lead over Bethune-Cookman entering their first meeting since 1989. John Hendricks was named JSU’s new coach last month after going 2-1 on an interim basis to finish a 5-5 season. Bethune went 7-5 in coach Terry Sims’ fourth campaign.
