(STATS) – Iowa State has switched its FCS opponent on Dec. 1 from UIW to Drake.
UIW (6-4) announced Tuesday it pulled out of the scheduled game to keep its focus on the FCS playoffs, which begin for the Cardinals with a first-round game at Montana State on Saturday.
Drake (7-3), a Pioneer Football League member, was a natural replacement as a former instate rival to Iowa State. Their meeting in Ames will be the 70th all-time, although the first since 1985.
Like Iowa State, Drake could add the extra game because its Sept. 1 season opener was canceled due to severe weather.
