COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley didn’t start against Missouri because of a knee injury sustained at Kentucky last weekend.
With Bentley on the sideline, backup Michael Scarnecchia made his first college start.
Bentley left the Kentucky game in the second half. He practiced much of the week and went through pre-game warmups with teammates. Bentley had a brace on his left knee.
Bentley has thrown for 928 yards with seven touchdowns and six interceptions.
Scarnecchia is a senior who has completed 8 of 13 career passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said Bentley was cleared to play and available if needed.
