(STATS) – Tennessee State football player Christion Abercrombie is breathing on his own and has been upgraded to stable condition, the university announced Sunday night.
Abercrombie had been in critical condition since sustaining a head injury in a game at Vanderbilt on Sept. 29. The linebacker underwent emergency surgery that night at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
But he was taken off a ventilator this weekend, the school said.
Abercrombie, an Atlanta native, is in his first season with Tennessee State as a transfer from Illinois.
