WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Capitals agreed to terms Wednesday with Nicklas Backstrom, the No. 4 overall pick in last year’s draft.
Backstrom, who will sign a three-year, entry-level contract, was considered a major piece of the Capitals’ rebuilding plans when they drafted him a year ago, but the 19-year-old center decided to remain in his native Sweden for another season.
Backstrom led Swedish Elite League club Brynas in points and assists and also represented his country at the recent world championship.
