ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Left wing Chris Kunitz of the Anaheim Ducks will undergo surgery Tuesday on his broken right hand and is expected to miss the rest of the postseason.
Kunitz broke a bone late in the opening game of the Western Conference finals on Friday at Detroit, won by the Red Wings. He didn’t play Sunday, and Dustin Penner and Todd Marchant helped fill his spot in the Ducks’ series-tying overtime victory.
The best-of-seven series shifts to Anaheim for games on Tuesday and Thursday.
Kunitz had a goal and five assists in the Ducks’ first 11 playoff games this year. He had 25 goals and 35 assists during the regular season, his second full NHL campaign.
The Ducks claimed him on waivers from Atlanta on Oct. 18, 2005. Anaheim originally signed him as a free agent on April 1, 2003.
