Anaheim defenseman Scott Niedermayer scored his second overtime goal of this year’s playoffs in a 4-3 win at Detroit on Sunday night. His first came on May 3, a double-overtime tally that eliminated Vancouver in Game 5 of the Western semifinals.

Canada won hockey’s world championship with a 4-2 victory over Finland on Sunday. Rick Nash led the way with two goals as Canada captured its’ 24th world title and first since 2004. Russia won the bronze medal by beating Sweden 3-1.
MORE THAN FOUR
Anaheim’s 4-3 overtime win on Detroit on Sunday night evened the Western Conference finals at a game apiece and guarantees the series will not end with a sweep for the first time in four matchups.
FEELING SPECIAL
Detroit’s special teams have accounted for all five goals through the first two games of the Western Conference finals against Anaheim. The power-play unit had both goals in a 2-1 win in Game 1 on Friday night and two more in a 4-3 overtime loss in Game 2 on Sunday. Kirk Maltby added a shorthaned tally on Sunday.
SLUMPING SABRES
Top-seeded Buffalo has lost four of six, is 8-5 overall this postseason and allowed 13 goals in its past three games. The Sabres are down two games to none in the Eastern Conference finals against Ottawa, the first time they have faced that deficit since trailing Pittsburgh 2-0 in a 2001 second-round series, which Buffalo eventually lost in seven games.
SIDELINED
Anaheim forward Chris Kunitz was scratched from the lineup because of an upper-body injury Sunday against Detroit in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals. Kunitz scored in the series opener Friday night, tying the game early in the third period before the Red Wings went on to win 2-1. … Buffalo defenseman Henrik Tallinder is sore after being cross-checked from behind by Ottawa’s Daniel Alfredsson, and could miss Game 3 Monday of the Eastern Conference finals.
