2014 MLB Playoff Betting: Giants have struggled vs. Pirates in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA (The Spread) – Tonight the Pirates will host the Giants in the National League Wild Card game and if recent trends are any indication, San Francisco will struggle in Pittsburgh.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Giants are -111 money line favorites over the Pirates, who are +103 money line home underdogs for tonight’s game. The total, meanwhile, is currently sitting at 6.5 runs.

As previously noted, the Giants have struggled against the Pirates of late. They’re just 2-6 in their last eight games in Pittsburgh and 1-4 in their last five games overall versus the Bucs. They’re also 1-5 in their last six road games, 2-5 in their last seven games versus a right-handed starter and 1-7 in their last eight games with the total set at 6.5 or lower.

On the other side, the Pirates are 4-0 in their last four games following an off day, 5-1 in their last six games following a loss and 17-6 in their last 23 games overall. They’re also 12-5 in Edinson Volquez’s last 17 starts, 4-1 in his last five home starts and 9-1 in his last 10 starts when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous game.
