The Chicago Bears placed middle linebacker Brian Urlacher on injured reserve on Monday, ending his 2009 season.
Urlacher suffered a wrist injury during the Bears’ 21-15 loss to the Packers on Sunday night. He had to have a dislocated bone put back into his wrist during surgery on Monday and the initial thought was that he would miss 4-6 weeks. But head coach Lovie Smith later confirmed that Urlacher would be placed on IR.
This is a huge blow for a Bears defense that played well in Green Bay on Sunday night. Assuming they don’t sign a free agent, Chicago will start Hunter Hillenmeyer at middle linebacker, or move outside ‘backer Lance Briggs inside.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the Bears’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV 15/1 and Chicago’s odds to win the NFC Championship 8/1.
