Despite awful debut, Browns to start Johnny Manziel in Week 16

CLEVELAND, OH (The Spread) – Despite his atrocious performance in Week 15, Browns coach Mike Pettine has already confirmed that Johnny Manziel will start in Week 16.

View Updated NFL Odds

Manziel completed just 10-of-18 passes for 80 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions in the Browns’ 30-0 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. He also added five rushes for 13 yards but barely could make much happen with his legs as Cincinnati’s defense contained him for most of the afternoon.

Despite the brutal start, Pettine confirmed that Manziel will start Week 16 versus the Panthers and is likely to play in Week 17 as well. Given how poorly Brian Hoyer was playing when he was benched, it makes sense that the Browns are going to stick with Manziel. If nothing else, the coaching staff will have three games in which to evaluate “Johnny Football” for next season.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Panthers are only 3.5-point home favorites versus the Browns for Sunday’s game. The over/under total is currently sitting at 44 points.
