Despite Game 1 loss, trends favor Royals over Giants in Game 2 of World Series

KANSAS CITY, MO (The Spread) – Despite their 7-1 loss to the Giants in Game 1 of the World Series, the trends still favor the Royals in Game 2.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Royals are -122 money line favorites over the Giants for tonight’s Game 2 start time of 8:07PM ET. San Francisco, meanwhile, is a +113 money line underdog and the total for tonight’s game is sitting at 7 runs.

For tonight, the Giants will turn to Jake Peavy, who is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in the postseason, while the Royals will counter with Yordano Ventura, who is 0-0 with a 4.85 ERA. Peavy is making his second World Series start after pitching last year for Boston. He gave up two runs in four innings in that appearance and hasn’t made it through six innings in either of his starts this postseason.

According to latest MLB trends, the Giants are just 1-5 in their last six games in Kansas City and 1-5 in their last six games overall versus the Royals. That lone victory, of course, came last night when Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence and the rest of the San Francisco offense got to James Shields early in route to a 7-1 win. Still, the trends aren’t in the Giants’ favor for tonight’s contest.

The Royals are still an impressive 8-1 in their last nine playoff games and 5-1 in their last six home games. They’re also 7-2 in their last nine games versus NL West opponents, 6-1 in their last seven games following a loss and 10-1 in their last 11 games versus a right-handed starter after struggling last night versus lefty Madison Bumgarner.
