Dodgers’ Kershaw favored to win National League MVP at 1/4 odds

LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – As Clayton Kershaw gears up to take on the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS on Friday night, he’s also favored to win the NL MVP in 2014.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Kershaw is currently a 1/4 favorite to win the 2014 NL MVP after posting a 21-3 record in the regular season. He also had an incredible 1.77 ERA, a miniscule 0.86 WHIP and 239 strikeouts over 198.1 innings pitching this year.

For those that don’t believe a pitcher should win MVP in baseball, Andrew McCutchen has the next-best odds to win the award at 4/1. McCutchen finished with a .314 batting average with 25 home runs, 83 RBI and an on base percentage of .410 for the Pirates. He also impacted games with his outstanding defense and base running as well.

While there are no current odds to win the NL Cy Young because Kershaw is a shoe-in, Felix Hernandez is a 1/2 favorite to win the AL Cy Young this season. Corey Kluber of the Indians has odds of 3/2 and is the only other pitcher in the conversation for Al Cy Young.

Meanwhile, Mets’ pitcher Jacob DeGrom is a 1/5 favorite to win the National League Rookie of the Year in 2014, while Reds’ centerfielder Billy Hamilton is 3/1. As the odds would indicate, DeGrom is largely expected to win the award running away.
