Following the Eagles’ lackluster performance on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, there are several rumors circulating about the future of Chip Kelly.
While appearing on Sirius XM NFL Radio, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that “momentum and signs seem to be piling up against a Chip Kelly return to Philadelphia.” Schefter added that the two sides are “sick of each other” and are perhaps heading for a separation after the season. Kelly was in charge this offseason when the Eagles made a series of questionable moves regarding personnel and are now 4-7 on the season.
On a related note, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday morning that USC “still maintains interest” in Kelly and will likely “touch base” with him following the season. Kelly had plenty of success at Oregon before taking over the Eagles and many believe his rightful place in the coaching world is in college football.
Rapoport also said not to “rule out” the Titans as a possible landing spot for Kelly. There’s an obvious connection in that Tennessee drafted quarterback Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 overall pick this past April, and Mariota ran Kelly’s system (or at least a version of his system under Mark Helfrich) to perfection at Oregon the past few years. The Titans are also in need of a coach after firing Ken Whisenhunt earlier this season.
