PITTSBURGH, PA (The Spread) – NL Central rivals square off tonight when the streaking Pirates host the Cubs at 7:05PM ET.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Pirates are -205 money line favorites over the Cubs, who are +188 money line road underdogs. The total, meanwhile, is currently sitting at 7 runs.
The Pirates are 4-0 in Gerritt Cole’s last four starts versus the Cubs, who are 9-23 in their last 23 games versus the Cubs and 3-11 in their last 14 road games versus Pittsburgh. The Pirates are also 6-1 in Cole’s last seven home starts, 9-2 in his last 11 starts as a favorite and 8-2 in his last 10 starts overall. Pittsburgh is also 4-0 in Cole’s last four starts with four days of rest, 19-8 in its last 27 games as a home favorite and 6-1 in its last seven games overall.
On the other side, the Cubs are 0-5 in their last five road games, 0-6 in their last six games overall and 0-4 in their last four games versus a right-handed starter. They’re also 0-6 in their last six games as an underdog, 0-7 in their last seven when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game and 8-20 in their last 28 games after allowing five runs or more in their previous game.
If you’re looking for a play on the total, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between the Cubs and Pirates and 18-6-2 in the last 26 games in Pittsburgh. So if the price is too steep on Pittsburgh tonight, the under should provide decent value.
