ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – After consecutive low-scoring games in the first two games of the series, the Cardinals and Red Sox will battle once again tonight at Busch Stadium.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cardinals are -169 money line home favorites for tonight’s game against the visiting Red Sox, who are +156 money line underdogs. The total for tonight’s 7:15PM ET start time is currently sitting at 7.5 runs.
Tonight’s pitching matchup will feature Brandon Workman versus Adam Wainwright, the ace of the Cardinals’ staff who is coming off a rough outing against the Brewers in his last start. Wainwright is 13-6 on the year and owns a 2.26 ERA, but he’s been roughed up in two of his last three starts. Workman, meanwhile, is 1-4 with a 4.08 ERA on the year and has never faced St. Louis.
The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in St. Loiuis and 4-0-1 in the last five meetings overall, including the last two nights when the Cardinals won 3-2 on Tuesday and the Red Sox returned the favor with a 2-1 win last night. The under is also 5-0 in Workman’s last five starts versus a team with a winning record, 4-1 in his last five starts as an underdog and 4-0 in the Red Sox’ last four road games.
On the other side, the under is 8-2-1 in the Cardinals’ last 11 interleague games, 7-1 in their last eight interleague games versus a right-handed starter and 7-2 in their lsat nine games versus AL East opponents. The under is also 17-8-2 in the Cards’ last 27 home games, 5-1-2 in Wainwright’s last eight starts versus a team with a losing record and 11-3-3 in his last 17 starts as a favorite of between -151 and -200.
