OAKLAND, CA (The Spread) – When the Royals and A’s face each other like they will again tonight, the under has been a solid play for bettors.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the A’s are a whopping -200 money line favorites over the visiting Royals, who are +183 money line road underdogs. The total for tonight’s 4:05PM ET start time is currently sitting at 7 runs at most online and Vegas sports books.
The reason the odds are heavy in Oakland’s favor, at least in part, is because newly acquired Jon Lester will be making his A’s debut. He’s 10-7 on the year with a 2.52 ERA and is 7-3 with a 1.43 ERA in 11 career starts versus the Royals. Jason Vargas draws the start for Kansas City and is 8-4 on the year with a 3.31 ERA. He’s 6-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 18 career games against the A’s.
The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams when the game is played in Oakland and 13-3-1 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams overall. In fact, the total was sitting at 7.5 runs last night and the under easily hit for bettors after the two teams combined for just one run in a 1-0 Royals victory.
The under is also 6-0 in the Royals’ last six games, 5-0 in their last five games as a road underdog and 9-1 in their last 10 after scoring two runs or less in their previous contest. On the other side, the under is 12-5-2 in the A’s last 19 after allowing two runs or less in their previous game and 19-9-3 in their last 31 games on Saturday.
