(The Spread) – In case any team was wondering, free agent slugger Prince Fielder is not in the market for a three-year deal this winter.
Fielder’s agent Scott Boras told Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com that the free agent first baseman will not consider a three-year offer worth $26 million per season. Apparently several general managers around the league thought Fielder would agree to a shorter deal and return to the free agent market as a 30-year-old. But that’s not the case said Boras.
“Not only is that inaccurate and delusional, but it seems that some people have gotten into their New Year’s Eve stash just a little bit early this year,” Boras told Levine. “It appears some baseball people are just bored. That’s when you hear ideas like that floated.”

It’s a little surprising that Fielder’s market has been pretty quiet this winter. Once Albert Pujols signed his deal with the Angels, one would have thought Fielder would be the next one to come off the market but that hasn’t been the case. There are rumors that the Cubs are not players for Fielder and the Orioles are unlikely to pursue him as well. The Mariners, Nationals and Blue Jays are just three teams with reported interest in the slugger.
Fielder batted .299 with 38 home runs and 120 RBI last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, who would love to have the first baseman back but figure to be outbid. Fielder hasn’t hit less than 30 home runs since his second full season in the majors in which he hit 28 dingers in 2006.
