NFL Report: Bears’ Marc Trestman expected to be fired

CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – It wasn’t too long ago that Marc Trestman was the toast of the town in Chicago. Now it would appear that he’s on his way out.

CBS Chicago’s Dan Bernstein reports that Trestman is expected to be fired at the end of the season. Bernstein notes that general manager Phil Emery’s fate remains undecided but there’s a chance that Chicago might clean house and start fresh at both head coach and GM.

Trestman was hired, in part, to help quarterback Jay Cutler turn the corner. Thanks to his previous work with signal-callers like Steve Young and Rich Gannon, Trestman was viewed as somebody that could make Cutler reach his full potential. But his offense has tanked this year while the defense hasn’t improved from its disastrous 2013 campaign.

Making matters worse, Trestman’s offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer recently ripped quarterback Jay Cutler anonymously before giving a tearful apology to the rest of the team. While blame can be spread evenly in Chicago (Cutler could play like he gives a damn once in a while), Trestman will wind up being the scapegoat for what has turned into an embarrassing season for a once proud organization.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Bears are 7-point home underdogs this Sunday against the Lions. The over/under total is currently sitting at 45.5 points.
