Andrew Hammond will start in net for the Senators tonight and the backup goaltender has struggled this season. He made 20 saves while allowing three second-period goals in the Senators’ 3-1 loss to the Islanders last Wednesday in New York. He’s now 5-9-4 with a goals-against-average of 2.72 and a save percentage of .912. Hammond has shown no signs of turning things around.

Ondrej Pavelec, meanwhile, will start for Winnipeg. He turned away 29 shots in the Jets’ 3-2 loss in overtime to the Flyers on Monday night but played well despite the loss. He was 14 seconds away from a shootout when Claude Giroux ended the game with a goal in OT. He’s 10-13-3 with a 2.72 GAA and a .907 save percentage. Pavelec hasn’t been great, he just hasn’t been good either.
The Senators have dropped four of their last five games and are 7-20 in their last 27 road games. The Jets haven’t been much better at home, losing 13 of 18 inside their own building, but they are 11-5 in their last 16 home games versus a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400.
