ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – Not that the decision would have any impact on their playoff hopes this year, there is a report that states the Rams will shut down Sam Bradford for the remainder of the season.
The report comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who is one of the most reliable NFL sources in the media. The news also makes sense, seeing as how the Rams have nothing to play for and only draft position to gain by losing their remaining three games. Plus, why risk Bradford injuring his ankle even more when he has his entire career ahead of him?
Kellen Clemens and perhaps even Tom Brandstater will get the majority of the opportunities down the stretch. Thus, it’s probably safe to stay that running back Steven Jackson will receive plenty of touches over these next few weeks as the Rams keep the ball out of the air.
Much like the Rams’ entire season, Bradford has been a disappointment this year. After throwing for 3,512 yards and 18 touchdowns as a rookie in 2010, he threw for just 2,164 yards and six touchdowns this season in limited action. The Rams’ offense has struggled mightily all year and despite the mid-season trade to bring Brandon Lloyd over from Denver, St. Louis needs to add another weapon for Bradford heading into next year.
The draft is still a ways off but with the Rams sitting at 2-11, there will be plenty of draft talk in St. Louis over these next couple of weeks. The Rams are a 7-point underdog versus the Bengals Sunday in St. Louis.
