NEW ORLEANS, LA (The Spread) – Roll Tide? The spread has completely flipped in favor of Alabama for tonight’s 2012 BCS National Championship Game.
After opening at LSU –1 back in early December, the spread has done a 180 and then some. Now most sports books list Alabama as a 1-point favorite and in fact, the spread has climbed to 2 or even 2.5 at some places. The Mirage, Caesars and The Orleans all have the Crimson Tide listed at –2.5.
Some books are holding steady at 1 and the Las Vegas Hilton even has the game as a pick’em, but it’s clear that oddsmakers have shifted their odds to favor ‘Bama. Some books were reportedly getting an influx of sharp bettors that were hammering the Tide, which makes sense when viewing the line movement. Of the 60,000-plus wagers on tonight’s game, 64% of public bettors currently back the Tigers so it’s clearly not the public that’s moving the line.

The over/under total is on the move as well. After opening at 40 back in December, the total has now climbed to 40.5 or even 41 at some books. These two teams played to a 9-6 defensive struggle earlier this year as both offenses failed to reach the end zone. One would think that most bettors would be taking the under tonight but maybe sharps have hopped on the over as well.
Kickoff is set for 8:30PM ET tonight at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. No matter who comes out on top, the SEC will claim its sixth straight national championship tonight when No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama go toe-to-toe.
