Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres 3/31/16 NHL Picks & Predictions

The Maple Leafs have gotten great production out of goaltender Jonathan Bernier of late and will look to pull off the upset with him in net tonight when they visit the Sabres at 7:00PM ET.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Sabres are -130 money line favorites versus the Maple Leafs, who have odds of +110 to pull off the small upset. As for the total, the number currently sits at 5 goals.

Bernier stopped 32-of-34 shots in a 5-2 upset win over the Panthers on Tuesday night. He hasn’t allowed more than two goals in a game since March 5 and is 4-2-0 during that stretch. While the win only improved his record to 11-20-3, Bernier and the Leafs in general have played significantly better hockey of late and he’s a big reason why.

On the other side, Chad Johnson will draw the start for Buffalo. He had to face 46 shots in a 5-4 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. He stopped 42 of those 46 shots and finished the first period with 18 saves as Buffalo took a 3-0 lead. But in the second, he allowed four goals on 14 shots as the Sabres fell apart defensively.

The Sabres are 19-41 in their last 60 home games, 15-40 in their last 55 contests playing the third game of a 3-in-4 situation, and are 0-8 in their last eight games when their opponent scores five goals or more in its previous game. This is a great opportunity to take the underdog that’s playing much better than its opponent right now.
