Unders crush the books on Sunday of NFL’s Week 14

LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – If you’re a big under bettor in the NFL, chances are you cleaned up in Week 14.

Out of the 14 games that were played on Sunday, the combined score went under the total in 10 of those 14 contests. The game that likely got a lot of public bettors was the total in the Sunday night matchup between the Patriots and Chargers. Set at 53 points at kickoff, New England and San Diego combined for just 37 points as neither team scored in the third quarter and the Chargers were shut out in the second half.

Some of the other surprising unders came in Philadelphia, where the Eagles and Seahawks combined for 38 points despite the total sitting at 48 points at kickoff. Another high total that didn’t go over was in Cleveland where the Colts and Browns combined for 49 points, one point shy of the total at kickoff (50). Had the Colts been successful on a two-point conversion with roughly a minute remaining in the game, over bettors would have cashed.

So what does this mean for tonight’s matchup between the Falcons and Packers on Monday night? Oddsmakers assume that the game will be high-scoring as they opened the over/under at 54. According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, that number has already been bet up to 56.

The over is 5-1 in the Packers’ last six home games but the under is 4-0 in the Falcons’ last four road games. Aaron Rodgers and the Pack should put up plenty of points but Marr Ryan and Co. have struggled offensively on the road this season. It’ll be interesting to see if one more under hits in Week 14 tonight.
