The Chicago White Sox have announced that they are allowing Gavin Floyd decide whether he makes his scheduled start Tuesday against Boston or to be pushed back a day.
This news comes after Floyd pitched the 14th inning Saturday at Toronto, throwing 15 pitches and giving up a walkoff home run to Corey Patterson. It was originally Floyd’s day to throw on the side between starts, but the White Sox were in a bind with a depleted bullpen and opted to use their right-handed starter.
Chicago is benefited by its current six-man rotation, meaning if Floyd does decide to push his start back Phil Humber (3-3, 2.85 ERA) will take the ball on full rest.
Floyd is currently 5-5 this season with a 3.69 earned-run average and 56 strikeouts in 10 starts and the one relief appearance.
