(The Spread) – Following Pope Benedict XVI’s surprise decision to resign on Monday, oddsmakers have released prop odds for who the next Pope will be. Let’s check out the odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Marc Ouellet of Canada is the favorite to replace Pope Benedict XVI at 7/2 odds. Francis Arinze of Nigeria has the next best odds at 4/1 while Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson of Ghana is 4/1. Leonardo Sandri of Argentina is 13/2, Angelo Scola of Italy is 7/1, and Angelo Bagnasco of Italy is 15/2.
Continuing with the odds, Gianfranco Ravasi of Italy is 8/1, Tarcisio Bertone of Italy is 16/1 and Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina is 20/1. Christoph von Schonborn of Austria and Tim Dolan of the United States and Odilo Pedro Scherer of Brazil are all 33/1, respectively.
Which country will the next Pope be from? According to oddsmakers, Italy is the favorite at 8/5 while Africa has the next best odds at 7/4. North America has odds of 13/4 and South/Central America is the current long shot at 7/2.
Finally, what will be the age of the next Pope? The odds for “60 or under” has odds of 10/1 while “61-65” has odds of 2/1. The odds for between 66 and 70 are even money at 1/1, while the odds for 71 and over are 2/1.
