DETROIT, MI (The Spread) – Some Detroit fans are irate over the fact that Nickelback is scheduled to play at the Thanksgiving game this year.
The Lions playing on Thanksgiving is a tradition every year in the NFL. What fans in Detroit don’t want, is Nickelback ruining said tradition. Some fans are petitioning that the Canadian band not play at halftime of the Lions’ game with the Green Bay Packers, and oddsmakers have set odds for whether or not Nickelback will be allowed to perform this Thanksgiving.
For the prop wager, “Will Nickelback perform during halftime of the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving football game on November 24,” Bodog gives odds of “Yes” at –1400 on the money line and odds of “No” at +700. So in other words, oddsmakers don’t have a lot of faith in Detroit Lion fans turning Nickelback away at the end of the month.
For the fans that have put together the petition, the main issue is that Motown has been blessed with tons of tremendous artists and the folks at Ford Field have signed Nickelback to play. From Stevie Wonder to Aretha Franklin to Kid Rock, certainly there are better choices than a band from Canada that is vilified by many in the United States.
It’ll be interesting to see if even planners take the petition serious enough to swap out Nickeback for a more Detroit-friendly musician. Surely somebody wants to hear Nickelback play on Thanksgiving but it has to be eye-opening that a very large contingent has gone as far as to sign a petition not to allow the Chad Kroeger and Co. play.
