Texas Rangers’ outfielder Josh Hamilton is the favorite to win the 2008 Home Run Derby at 25/1 odds. Houston Astros’ first basemen Lance Berkman was given the second best odds to win at 35/1. Both Philadelphia Phillies’ second basemen Chase Utley and Minnesota Twins’ catcher Justin Morneau were given 40/1 odds to win the Derby.
According to oddsmakers, Tampa Bay Rays’ rookie third basemen Evan Longoria is the long shot to win the 2008 Home Run Derby at 70/1. Florida Marlins’ second basemen Dan Uggla and Milwaukee Brewers’ third basemen Ryan Braun are also long shots at 55/1.
Los Angeles Angels’ outfielder Vladamir Gurrero won the 2007 Home Run Derby, while Philadelphia Phillies’ first basemen Ryan Howard won the event in 2006. Former Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder Bobby Abreu won the 2005 Derby, while former Baltimore Orioles’ shortstop Miguel Tejada won it in 2004. Overall, the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels have had the most Home Rub Derby wins by team with three apiece, although no player from either of those teams are competing in the even this year.
