Lions vs. Vikings Free Pick
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (The Spread) – With Calvin Johnson unlikely to play today, will the under hit when the Vikings host the Lions at 1:00PM ET?
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Lions are 1.5-point favorites over the Vikings while the total is currently sitting at 45 points. As of this writing, just over 50% of the betting public likes Detroit minus the points.
LINE MOVEMENT: The Vikings opened as 2.5-point underdogs but the line has dropped to 1.5, presumably because Johnson is unlikely to play. The total, meanwhile, opened at 44 and has jumped to 45.
SEASON RECORDS: The Lions are 3-2 on the year and 3-2 at the betting window, while the Vikings enter play with a 2-3 straight up record and are 2-3 against the spread. The under is 4-1 in Detroit’s first five games and 3-2 in Minnesota’s five contests in 2014.
NFL FREE PICK: Take the under. According to latest NFL trends, the under is 4-0 in the Lions’ first four games overall, 4-0 in their last four games following an ATS loss and 6-1 in their last seven games on fieldturf. The under is also 4-1 in Detroit’s last five divisional games, 7-3 in its last 10 road games and 4-0 in its last four games following a straight up loss. The Lions’ offense looks completely different when Johnson isn’t in the lineup, just as it was a week ago when they only mustered 14 points in a loss to the Bills. With Johnson hobbled, look for this game to fall well under the total.
