2014 NLDS Nationals vs. Giants – Trends favor Washington in Game 4

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (The Spread) – Recent trends indicate that the Nationals’ season won’t end tonight in Game 4 of the NLDS.

View MLB Playoff Odds

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Nationals are -135 money line favorites tonight for Game 4 of the NLDS versus the Giants, who are +125 money line home underdogs. The total for tonight’s 9:00PM ET start time is currently sitting at 6.5 runs.

If the recent trends are any indication of how this game will play out, then bettors should load up on the Nationals. That’s because the Giants are just 2-8 in Ryan Vogelsong’s last 10 home starts, 1-4 in his last five starts overall and 0-6 in his last six starts as a home underdog. The Giants are also 1-12 in their last 13 games as a home underdog, 0-4 in their last four Divisional Playoff home games and 2-8 in their last 10 games with the total set at 6.5 runs or lower.

It’s the exact opposite scenario for Washington. The Nationals are 4-1 in Gio Gonzalez’s last five starts, 20-8 in his last 28 starts as a road favorite and 10-1 in his last 11 starts versus National League West opponents. The team is also 5-0 in its last five road games, 6-0 in its last six road games versus a right-handed starter and 14-3 in its last 17 road games versus a team with a winning home record.

Given all of the lefties in the Giants’ lineup, this could be a great spot for bettors to take advantage of a Nationals team that stole the momentum in this series with its 4-1 victory in Game 3 on Monday. The tide in this series has definitely shifted.
