BEREA, Ohio (AP) – Browns Pro Bowl center Alex Mack will have surgery on his broken left leg and will likely miss the rest of the season.
Team officials said Monday that Mack broke his fibula in the second quarter Sunday against Pittsburgh. Mack’s surgery is being scheduled and a timetable for his recovery will be determined after the operation.
Also, Browns defensive end Armonty Bryant suffered a season-ending knee injury. Bryant tore knee ligaments in the first quarter of Sunday’s 31-10 win. Bryant started for Phil Taylor, who had knee surgery last week.
The loss of Mack is a damaging blow to the Browns (3-2). He had played every snap of his NFL career (5,279) before he was injured blocking on a running play. Mack has been the anchor for Cleveland’s steady offensive line, which has been the key to the team’s early success.
