Buffalo selected to host 2016 NHL draft

 

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has formally announced Buffalo will host the league’s draft in 2016.
Bettman was joined by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Sabres executives in making the announcement before Buffalo’s home game against Anaheim on Monday afternoon.
It will mark the third time Buffalo will be home to the NHL’s annual draft, which is traditionally held on the final weekend of June. The Sabres previously hosted the event in 1991 and `98.
Aside from Montreal, which was home to the draft from 1963-’84, Buffalo will become the NHL’s first market to hold the event more than twice. Next year’s draft will be held in Sunrise, Florida.
The draft in Buffalo coincides with the final year of the Sabres’ two-year agreement to host the league’s annual rookie scouting combine.
