NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A former Vanderbilt University football player accused of gang raping a student in a campus dormitory last year says athletics officials told him he would lose his scholarship if he didn’t cooperate with police investigating the case.
Brandon Vandenburg testified Wednesday that former Vanderbilt coach James Franklin and another high-ranking official said his scholarship would be in jeopardy if he didn’t cooperate. Vandenburg says police officers who questioned him also told him he would lose the scholarship if he didn’t cooperate.
Vandenburg testified during a hearing over motions in the case against him and another former player, Corey Batey. Their trial is set for Nov. 3.
All four ex-players who are charged have pleaded not guilty and are free on bond.
