Idaho Vandals

The Idaho Vandals are coming off of a 9-4 season which ended in the FCS Quarterfinals. Head coach Jason Eck enters his third season at Idaho and has his work cut out for him as he looks to replace his quarterback, running back, and two star wide receivers. Jack Layne will look to be the answer at QB. In his one start for Idaho last season he threw for 275 yards and 6 touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore Jordan Dwyer will look to step in and lead the receiver room. The defensive side of the ball is a bit more positive as the defensive line returns eight players with at least 100 snaps. They will be led by Dallas Afalava on the line and will also return three defensive backs to the secondary. Idaho played two FBS teams last season, defeating Nevada 33-6 and losing to California 31-17.

Oregon Ducks

The offensive juggernaut Oregon Ducks head to the Big Ten conference led by Heisman favorite Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel transfers in from Oklahoma where he threw for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns last season. Tez Johnson returns to lead the receivers after a 1,182 yard 10 touchdown season. He will be joined by Traeshon Holden and Gary Bryant Jr. who combined for 894 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns last season for Oregon. They will also be bringing in Texas A&M transfer Evan Stewart who had over 1000 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Aggies. The Oregon defense hit the transfer portal for reinforcements and brought in defensive backs Jabbar Muhammad and Kobe Savage along with nose tackle Jamaree Caldwell.

Oregon is 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games

The total has gone OVER in 4 of Oregon’s last 13 games

The total has gone UNDER in Idaho’s last two games against FBS opponents

Idaho is 2-0 ATS in their last two games against FBS opponents

Idaho vs. Oregon Betting Prediction

I like Oregon to cover the 44 point spread to kick off the season in Eugene. Idaho is a very strong FCS program that is ranked 7th in preseason polls. But they will be taking on the #3 team in the country and I think this one will get away from them quickly. Oregon is bigger, better, faster, and stronger. They also bring in tons of experience on both the offense and defensive side of the ball. Idaho QB Jack Layne played very well in his only start last season throwing 6 touchdowns. In this one he might throw 6 interceptions. Oregon opened up last season with an 81-7 victory over Portland State. I expect this Idaho vs. Oregon matchup to go a similar way.

Idaho vs. Oregon Prediction: Oregon -44
