The Houston Texans look to bounce back after their 3rd loss of the season last Thursday. But it won’t come easy as they will host the 7-1 Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. Houston has lost 2 of their last 3 games and are currently 6-3 on the season. The Lions have won 6 straight games. They are currently a 3.5 point favorite and this Lions vs. Texans matchup kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET.

Detroit Lions
The Lions have dominated this season with a 7-1 record and they’ve been able to do so indoors or outside in the pouring rain. Last week they took on the Green Bay Packers and came away with a 24-14 win. Jared Goff continued his success throwing the ball, completing 18 of 22 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. David Montgomery had 73 rush yards and Jahmyr Gibbs had 65 rush yards and a touchdown. The defense pitched in an interception for a touchdown. Two downsides to the Lions performance, Josh Jacobs averaged 7.3 yards per carry and the defense didn’t have a sack. The Lions made a move at the trade deadline to help their defensive line after the loss of Aidan Hutchinson. Za’Darius Smith is now a Lion. He had 5 sacks on the season with the Browns. Smith is currently listed as questionable after just joining his new team.
Houston Texans
The Texans lost for the second time in 3 games after taking on the Jets last Thursday night and going down 21-13. The offense once again struggled without their reliable receivers. C.J. Stroud completed just 11 of his 30 pass attempts for 191 yards. Tank Dell had 126 receiving yards and Robert Woods and Dalton Schultz combined for the other 65 yards. On top of that, Stroud was harassed all night by the Jets defensive line getting sacked 8 times. Joe Mixon managed his 4th straight 100+ yard rush game. Good news for the Texans, Nico Collins has been activated off injured reserve. However he logged just a limited practice on Friday and remains questionable to play.
Lions vs. Texans Betting Trends
Detroit is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games
The OVER is 4-4 in Detroit’s last 8 games
Houston is 5-0 SU in their last 5 home games
The UNDER is 7-1 in Houston’s last 8 games
Lions vs. Texans Prediction:
Take the Lions on Sunday Night Football. I was itching to take the Texans as a home dog with Nico Collins most likely returning to the field, but I just can’t go against this Lions team. They are 7-1 SU, 7-1 ATS, and 4-0 ATS on the road. The Texans are 3-5-1 ATS, 4-0 SU at home, and are 1-2-1 ATS at home. The sophomore slump might be real for C.J. Stroud. He has put up two of his worst performances of his short career in 2 of his last 3 games. He has been sacked 30 times this season. Nico Collins isn’t going to slow down a pass rush and he won’t stop the penalties. The Texans are the 4th most penalized team in the league. The Lions will be without blindside blocker Taylor Decker on Sunday after he got hurt in practice. But Houston on the other side of the line have already ruled out Will Anderson, and Foley Fatukasi is questionable and hasn’t practiced all week. Detroit will pull away in this one. I’ll ride the Lions train until it derails.
Lions vs. Texans Prediction: Lions -3.5
