Westburg suffered a right hand fracture
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Jordan Westburg suffered a right hand fracture. Westburg fractured his right hand when he was hit by a 95 mph fastball during Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays. Hyde said the Orioles are hoping he can return by the end of the regular season. Westburg is droppable in formats without spots for injured players based on that timetable. It’s a tough blow for fantasy managers as Westburg was enjoying a breakout season with a .271 average, 18 home runs and 58 RBI. The calls for Baltimore to call up Coby Mayo will only grow louder as the team moves forward without Westburg for the time being. It seems like a virtual lock that Mayo will get the call to the majors following this latest development.
Rocchio homers in lone at-bat
Brayan Rocchio homered in his lone at-bat off the bench Tuesday against the Tigers. Rocchio has lost his everyday gig at shortstop, as manager Stephen Vogt is now mixing and matching he and Daniel Schneeman. There’s still time for that to change, however, particularly if Rocchio can get hot at the plate. He has four homers in his last 111 plate appearances after going without one in 189 plate appearances to start the year. Unfortunately, he’s hit just .192 in the midst of this “power surge.”
