GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes, the second a 66-yarder to the streaking Jordy Nelson, and the Green Bay Packers led the Minnesota Vikings 14-0 after the first quarter Thursday night.
Rodgers found Nelson off play-action, and the NFL’s leading receiver hauled in the pass at the 20. He easily outraced safety Harrison Smith into the end zone before taking a Lambeau Leap in the light rain at 5:29 of the first.
Rodgers also connected with Randall Cobb for an 8-yard touchdown pass set up by three straight handoffs to Eddie Lacy, who had a season-high 59 yards alone in the first 15 minutes. Cobb scored his league-leading sixth touchdown of the season.
Christian Ponder started at quarterback for Minnesota with rookie Teddy Bridgewater out with a sprained left ankle. The Vikings didn’t get past midfield, with safety Morgan Burnett stopping Jarius Wright a yard short of a first down at their own 41 to force a punt on Minnesota’s best series.
Green Bay’s league-worst run defense also got off to a good start, holding Minnesota’s Matt Asiata to 25 yards on seven carries.
Nick Perry had a sack for the Packers.
