INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Purdue players are hearing coach Darrell Hazell’s message about winning football.
He wants a solid ground game, a stout defense and a combination that’s good enough to play four quarters.
A week ago, the Boilermakers (3-3, 1-0 Big Ten) followed the plan and won their first conference game under Hazell. This week, with No. 8 Michigan State coming to town, Purdue will have to play even better.
The eighth-ranked Spartans (4-1, 1-0) could be the model for Purdue — or anyone else in the league.
They’ve thrived with one of the nation’s best defenses, a balanced offense and may be the league’s last hope for the inaugural four-team playoff.
But Michigan State has something to prove this weekend — that it can win on the road.
