What are Proposition Bets – Prop Bets Explained Definition

What are Proposition or Prop Bets?

Prop bets are similar to future bets, but instead of wagering on the future of a team, the wager is made on an individual player or event. Sports books will describe a scenario and place odds on that scenario actually happening. Prop bets can be placed on anything from how many goals, runs or touchdowns certain players will score to which team will score the first in a specific game, etc.

Example:

Which player will have the most runs, RBI and home runs in the A’s-Red Sox game?

Frank Thomas (TOR) –105
Barry Bonds (SF) -125

If Jamal believes Bonds will have more runs, RBI and home runs than Thomas, he must wager $125 to win $100.

Another Example:

Will the Super Bowl coin flip be heads or tails?

Heads +100
Tails -110

If Jason believes the coin flip will be heads, he must wager $100 to win $100.
