Woods is a four-time winner of the Masters, but his last victory came back in 2005. A 13-time major champion, Woods is looking to win his first major since the 2008 U.S. Open. Injuries and off-the-course distractions have kept Woods from continuing his pursuit of Jack Nicklaus’ all-time majors record. However, Woods has looked promising in his return to competitive golf in 2018. He had a runner-up finish this year and has finished in the top 5 of his last two events.
When it comes to Augusta, it has usually been a good course for him. Over 20 appearances in the Masters, Woods has finished in the top 10 13 times and in the top 5 11 times. Even his last appearance in 2015, Woods finished 17th and that was at a time where he was playing very poorly otherwise.
During previous comeback efforts Woods has stated he just wanted to “compete again.” He knew his skills weren’t ready to win PGA tournaments. Woods has been very clear that he is coming to Augusta this week to win. He is confident in his game and that his body will hold up. This is his first major since 2015, so it will be interesting to see if Tiger will have the same mental strength he has shown in the past to handle adversity and the pressure of major golf.
