Tiger to win major in 2019?
After picking up his first victory in five years, is it time for Tiger Woods to finally claim a major championship again in 2019?
According to the latest oddsmakers, Woods is listed with odds of +225 to win a major in 2019, while his odds to not win are at -275. Woods has +250 odds to win exactly one major next year, odds of +1400 to win exactly two, +6000 to win exactly three and +20000 odds to win the Grand Slam. He is currently a co-favorite to win the 2019 Masters Championship alongside Jordan Spieth at +1000.
Following Sunday’s win in the TOUR Championship, Woods has climbed to 13th in the world rankings. He ended 2017 656th in the world rankings but has had a remarkable comeback season in 2018. Woods has played in 18 events this year and has seven top-10 finishes with one win and two-runner up finishes. He missed just two cuts during the year.
Tiger has won a total of 14 major championships in his career, but the last victory came in 2008 during the U.S. Open. In that event, he had a fracture in his leg. Until this year, Woods hadn’t cracked the top 10 of a major since 2013. This year, Woods finished 32nd at The Masters, missed the cut of the U.S. Open, was sixth at The Open Championship and runner-up in the PGA Championship.
It’s certainly much more reasonable to believe that Woods can get a major next year. He had at least a share of the lead on Sunday in the final two majors, but wasn’t able to finish the job. Winning this weekend takes a big weight off his shoulders, as he knows he can actually win again. He can now apply that to a major and finish strong.
