Zozo Championship Predictions
The 2020 PGA Tour heads overseas this week with The Zozo Championship taking place. Here’s three golfers we like to contend for the victory.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Justin Thomas is the favorite this weekend, as he has 7/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Rory McIlroy (8/1), Hideki Matsuyama (18/1) and Xander Schauffele (20/1). The 2019 Zozo Championship starts Wednesday night and runs through the weekend from Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba Prefecture, Japan
1001 Rory McIlroy 8/1
McIlroy is finishing his 2019 on a strong note. He has finished in the top 10 in five of his last seven tournaments, including one win. He hasn’t finished outside the top 26 in any of those nine tournaments. For the year, McIlroy has three wins over 22 tournaments with 16 top-10 finishes. I like McIlroy to continue to play well overseas this week and be a top contender in a competitive field.
1002 Hideki Matsuyama 18/1
It’s not often that Matsuyama gets to play in his home country, so I would expect him to be on top of his game this weekend. It’s been a few years since he has picked up a victory, but he has been trending upwards in recent months. Over his last five tournaments, Matsuyama has finished 16th or better in four of them and third in two of them.
1013 Jason Day 33/1
Day hasn’t had a great 2019, but he is coming off winning the skins challenge against the likes of McIlroy, Matsuyama and Tiger Woods last weekend. That took place in Japan and should give him some momentum coming into this weekend’s tournament. Day still has the ability to dial into his top-ranked playing days. He won four tournaments in 2015 and three in 2016. Last year he put up two wins, so I think he can still make something of his 2019 campaign this weekend.
