Updated Open Championship Odds
The first round of the 2019 Open Championship is in the books and a familiar name is once again in contention to win.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Brooks Koepka is favored to win the event after Round 1, as he has 4/1 odds entering Friday. Other short odds to win are Jon Rahm (13/2), Tommy Fleetwood (12/1) and Justin Rose (14/1).The 2019 Open Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday from Royal Portrush Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland.
Koepka continues to impress in majors. He has finished first or second in the first three majors of 2019 and he is currently tied for third in this event after shooting a 3-under, 68 on Thursday. Koepka hasn’t fared well in this event in the past, but this is his caddie’s home course and that knowledge seemed to pay off.
Jon Rahm is seeking his first major championship and he also shot a 3-under, 68, on Thursday to be in a large group tied for third. He and Koepka are two shots behind leader J.B. Holmes (33/1) and a shot behind Shane Lowry (16/1). Fleetwood is also part of the group that is at 3-under for the tournament.
Justin Rose is 2-under after carding a 69 on Thursday. Rose is a former major champion, winning the 2013 U.S. Open. He finished second in this event last year.
In a major surprise, pre-tournament favorite Rory McIlroy bombed on Thursday. Playing in his home country, McIlroy opened his round with a quadruple bogey and then finished it with a triple bogey. McIlroy shot an 8-over, 79, and is basically out of contention. Tiger Woods didn’t fare much better, shooting a 7-over, 78 in his first round.
