WGC-HSBC Champions Predictions
The best golfers in the world will gather in China this weekend for the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament that begins later tonight. Here’s the golfers we like to contend for the win.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Rory McIlroy is favored to win, as he is getting 6/1 odds to prevail. Other short odds to win are Hideki Matsuyama (11/1) and Xander Schauffele (14/1). The 2019 WGC-HSBC Champions event takes place Wednesday night-Sunday morning from Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, China.
1002 Xander Schauffele 14/1
Schauffele is the defending champion of this event and he has placed in the top 25 in six of the nine WGC events he has played in over his career. Schauffele is coming off a 10th-place finish in last weekend’s Zozo Championship and he also was second in the TOUR Championship in September. He is playing pretty well right now and is always able to make cuts. I think, at a course he is really comfortable at, Schauffele should have another great showing this weekend.
1003 Justin Rose 16/1
Rose is the winner of this tournament in 2017 and he has two WGC titles to his credit. This has been a great event for him, as he has finished in the top 5 in three of the last four times he has competed. Rose has been somewhat quiet in 2019, but he has still only missed two cuts this year. Always in the mix, I expect Rose to continue to play well at this course and make a run at another victory.
1005 Henrik Stenson 28/1
Henrik Stenson has great value in this tournament at 28/1. Stenson has been the runner-up of this event the last two times he played in 2016 and 2017. He also was 11th in 2015. Stenson hasn’t had a great 2019, which is why his odds are where they are, but he has looked stronger at the end of the year. Prior to missing the cut at the Houston Open, Stenson had finished in the top 10 in six of his last seven events, which including four top-10 finishes. Now returning to a course that is strongly suited to his game, I like Stenson to be a top contender this weekend.
