College Football Predictions Week 1 Southern Miss vs. Kentucky 9/1/16

Southern Miss vs. Kentucky Prediction

Will Saturday’s game between Southern Miss and Kentucky play over the total for bettors at 7:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Wildcats are 6.5-point home favorites versus the Golden Eagles, while the over/under currently sits at 63.5 points. While the total is still at its original number posted by oddsmakers, Kentucky opened as a touchdown-sized favorite over Southern Miss before the line was bet down a half point.

Bet College Football’s Week 1 Games

The Golden Eagles were one of the best ATS teams in the country last season, covering in 10 of their last 14 games by an average margin of +10.1 points per contest. They were also 4-3 at the betting window as an underdog and covered in five of their seven road games.

The Wildcats were a poor play all season for bettors in 2015, covering in just three of their 12 games. They failed to cover by a -3.4 margin per game and were just 2-6 at the betting window at home last season. They did spilt the four home games that they were favored in, however, going 2-2 against the spread in those situations. They were just 2-6 against the number in all lined home games on the year though.

OUR EARLY PICK: Kentucky has plenty of hope for the new season thanks to new starting quarterback Drew Barker, who was a blue-chip recruit in 2014. The running game also returns Boom Williams and the addition of offensive coordinator Eddie Gran from Cincinnati should provide plenty of fireworks on that side of the ball. The over is 4-0-1 in the Wildcats’ last five home games and is a perfect 6-0 in their last six non-conference games. The over is 4-1 in the Golden Eagles’ last five games overall as well.
