College Football Week 8 Picks: Will Oregon & Cal play over the Total? 10/21/16

Oregon vs. Cal Pick

Is the total set too high between Oregon and Cal on Friday night or will the Pac-12 rivals play over for bettors?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Golden Bears opened as a 2.5-point home favorite for Friday night’s 10:30PM ET kickoff but the line has been bet up to Cal -3. As for the total, the number hit the board at 87.5 and that’s where it currently sits.

The Ducks are looking to avoid their first five-game losing streak since 1996, which was Mike Bellotti’s second season in Eugene. Oregon lost by a combined six points to Nebraska and Colorado in its final two games in September but has since been blown out 51-33 by Washington State and 70-21 by Washington the last two weeks. The Ducks have yet to cover a spread in 2016 and are 0-5-1 against the number.

The Golden Bears, meanwhile, have been consistently inconsistent. After routing Hawaii 51-31 to open the college football season, they fell 45-40 to San Diego State. Then they beat Texas 50-43 at home only to fall at Arizona State 51-41 the following week. After upsetting Utah 28-23 as a 2-point underdog two weeks ago, Cal fell 47-44 to Oregon State as a 13.5-point favorite.

OUR PICK: Oregon has one of the worst defenses in the nation, ranking 127th in total yards allowed (522.3), 117th in passing yards allowed (284.3), 118th in rushing yards allowed (238.0), and 125th in points allowed (41.8). Cal has also been horrific defensively, allowing 40 points per game to rank 123rd in the nation. Even though the total is sitting at a staggering 87.5, there’s no reason to take the under with both of these teams allowing opponents to score at will.
