Lakers vs. Pelicans Prediction
Are the Lakers a good bet tonight to cover as a road underdog tonight when they take on the Pelicans at 8:00PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Pelicans are 6-point home favorites versus the Lakers after opening as a 5-point favorite. The total has also moved for tonight’s game, with the number moving from 217 up to 218.
LAKERS KEY TRENDS: The Lakers are 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight games versus a team with a losing record and are 7-3-1 at the betting window in their last 11 games playing on one day of rest. That said, they’ve failed to cover in five of their last 16 road games, are 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight games overall and are 1-5 ATS in their last six after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
PELICANS KEY TRENDS: The Pelicans are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games and have covered in six of their last eight games overall. But they’re just 4-10 at the betting window in their last 14 games versus Western Conference opponents and have failed to cover in five of their last seven home games versus a team with a losing road record.

OUR PREDICTION: The Lakers have been one of the better underdog plays in the league this season, covering in nine of their 14 opportunities this season as an underdog. In those spots as a dog, the Lakers lost the game by an average margin of 3.3 points. The Pelicans, meanwhile, are 0-4 against the spread as a home favorite and have lost by an average margin of -9.2 points. Granted, Los Angeles will be without D’Angelo Russell (knee) but the team hopes to get power forward Julius Randle back from a hip injury. Plus, the Lakers’ bench has been solid this season so look for them to keep things close tonight in New Orleans.
