Villanueva drives in winner
San Diego rallied from a 3-0 and 5-3 deficit Saturday night, while it then blew a 6-5 lead before eventually walking it off with a 7-6 victory. Christian Villanueva drove in Travis Jankowski with a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth inning to claim the win. Jankowski went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs to help pace the offense. Eric Hosmer was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs. Hunter Renfroe finished 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Cory Spangenberg was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Freddy Galvis ended the game 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Craig Stammen threw two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts to record the win.
Goldschmidt has four-RBI day
Paul Goldschmidt finished Saturday’s loss by going 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Jon Jay went 2-for-5 with two runs. Eduardo Escobar ended the game 3-for-5 with two runs. A.J. Pollock was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Andrew Chaffin suffered the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on no hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Zack Greinke (12-8, 3.00 ERA) will draw the start today for Arizona, while Brett Kennedy (0-2, 11.00) will be on the mound for San Diego.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 7-1 in their last eight games following a loss. The under is 10-3 in the last 13 Arizona games on Sundays.
San Diego
The Padres are 5-21 in their last 26 home games. San Diego is 15-39 in its last 54 games overall.
Prediction:
This is a complete pitching mismatch. Greinke has the arsenal to shut down good lineups, let alone a Padres lineup that struggles mightily against right-handed pitching. Kennedy had a strong season in the minors, but isn’t fooling anyone yet at the MLB level. I’m taking the D-backs to win by multiple runs in this spot.
