Braves blow lead in finale

Atlanta lost a 6-1 lead Thursday afternoon in a 9-7 defeat at the Cubs to drop to 48-34 overall and 24-17 on the road. Freddie Freeman helped pace the Braves offense as he went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Ozzie Albies finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Dansby Swanson ended the game 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run and three RBIs. Josh Tomlin suffered the loss as he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks over 2 2/3 innings. Mike Soroka draws the start tonight as he enters with an 8-1 record, 2.07 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 78 1/3 innings.

Mets rally, blow lead

New York scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning Thursday afternoon at Philadelphia to take a 3-1 advantage, but proceeded to give up five runs in the bottom half of a 6-3 defeat. Todd Frazier helped pace the Mets offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Michael Conforto went 1-for-3 with a walk. Domonic Smith finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Edwin Diaz took the loss in relief as he surrendered five earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and two walks over one-third of an inning. Jacob deGrom will start tonight for New York as he comes in with a 4-6 record, 3.25 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 121 strikeouts over 97 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Atlanta

The Braves are 15-5 in their last 20 games overall. Atlanta is 6-2 in its last eight Friday games.

New York

The Mets are 0-5 in their last five games versus the NL East. New York is 1-5 in the last six deGrom starts.

Prediction:

I’m actually surprised the Mets are this big of favorites. They still struggle to support deGrom and Soroka is turning in a fantastic season. He left his last start after two shutout innings with a forearm issue, but is deemed good enough to go here. I don’t think New York does much damage against him and I’m going to take advantage of the better team being the underdog.
