From Rotoworld: Nelson allowed just an unearned run over 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight Thursday against the Red Sox. Nelson walked four in the outing. If there was a reason to be optimistic about his nice start out of the gate last month, it was that his walks were down. Now, though, he’s issues 11 over his last 20 innings. We doubt he’ll maintain his current 3.99 ERA unless he keeps the walks down. He led the NL last year with 86 of them in 179 1/3 innings.
Richard yielded a lone run over seven strong innings Thursday but settled for a no-decision against the Rangers. Richard was brilliant, limiting the Texas club to just five hits and a walk over his seven-plus innings. A Mike Napoli solo homer followed by a Carlos Gomez single to lead off the eighth ended Richard’s night, and he had to watch as closer Brandon Maurer imploded an inning later, depriving the 33-year-old of his third win of the year. Even so, it was arguably Richard’s best turn since his season-opening dominance of the Dodgers, leaving him with a 4.34 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through eight starts.
